PROCUREMENT REQUIREMENTS FOR
SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAMS
{Students eating lunch}

Sponsors of the U.S. Department of Agriculture school nutrition programs must ensure compliance with procurement requirements. School nutrition programs include the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Program (SBP), Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), Special Milk Program (SMP), and Seamless Summer Option (SSO) of the NSLP.

Federal, state, and local laws and regulations specify the methods that school food authorities (SFAs) must follow to properly procure goods and services (2 CFR 200 and 7 CFR 210). State agencies are required to ensure that SFAs comply with the applicable regulations through audits, administrative reviews, technical assistance, training, guidance materials, and other means (7 CFR 210.19(a)(3)).
