SDE: Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability, and Reform (CEEDAR) Grant

Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability, and Reform (CEEDAR) Grant

funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education

Since 2013, the CEEDAR Center at the University of Florida (attach link http://ceedar.education.ufl.edu/) and the Department has collaborated with pilot higher education institutions, CCSU and SCSU, to analyze and reform teacher preparation curricula to ensure training in evidence-based practices in literacy (reading and writing), culturally responsive teaching and clinical experiences.  When revised curricula are implemented, the pilot institutions must then measure impact of pre-service candidates.

The state goal for the CEEDAR Grant is as follows: develop/strengthen pre-service candidate curricula, training and clinical experiences to ensure opportunity to learn evidence-based practices (EBPs) in literacy including foundational literacy skills, argumentation in reading comprehension and writing in order to support student achievement of core learning standards.

Two Connecticut pilot institutions partnering with and receiving intensive technical assistance from the CEEDAR Center and the Department are CCSU and SCSU.

Upcoming activities with our partner institutions and district leaders includes:
  • State Leadership Team meeting September 30, 2016
  • Planning for a statewide CEEDAR conference to be held on September 29, 2017.  SAVE THE DATE.  Details to come.
  • Presenting on Connecticut’s CEEDAR successes at national conferences including Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), CCSSO Network for Transforming Educator Preparation (NTEP) and AACTE.
  • Publication of a guidance document designed to assist professionals within educator preparation programs (EPPs) and within local education agencies (LEAs) who are involved in teacher preparation to develop a common vocabulary and an informed method of planning fieldwork experiences for teacher candidates.  Below is the current draft version available for public review and comment:
